In other words, the time zone map indicates positive or negative offsets from UTC using the codes UTC- or UTC+ and the corresponding number of hours and minutes.įor instance, at UTC☐0, you'll find the United Kingdom at UTC+14:00, you'll get Kiribati's Line Islands. Solar time is the formula used to set civil time via UTC.Ī time offset is the amount of time added to or subtracted from UTC. There are two ways of establishing time on planet Earth - the atomic clock and solar time.Ītomics clocks are complex timekeeping mechanisms run by national governmental agencies and used on specific occasions, technologies, and systems. That is why countries located immediately west of the IDL - Tonga, Samoa, and Kiribati - are the first to celebrate the New Year. IDL is another imaginary line that passes through the middle of the Pacific Ocean and determines where you cross from one day to the next. Nevertheless, many people still use GMT as the time standard for all countries worldwide - for example, GMT+12:00 for New Zealand.īut there's also another important formalism - the International Date Line (IDL). UTC is precisely the same imaginary line defined by GMT at the Prime Meridian, located in the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. It replaced the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) in the late 1960s, even though GMT remains today as a regional time zone at UTC+00:00. The official time standard regulating the world's time and clocks is called Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). The Differences Between GMT, UTC, and IDL Take a look at the official world time zone map. So, we all end up getting 24 standard time zones and 14 additional exceptions.Īs a result, local time always depends on what time zone you're in at a given moment.Īs stated above, all nations have specific interests, so the time zone map is not linear as it should be in theory. With the rotation of the Earth, from east to west, each meridian represents one given hour. They're technically named meridians, i.e., imaginary lines that run vertically from the North Pole to the South Pole, each 15 degrees apart. However, in a world with borders, political, geographical, social interests, and lobbies, the officially established time zones make the planet look like a complicated geometrical drawing of longitudinal lines. Ideally, the planet would be divided between 24 identical time zones, each representing one hour of the day. When you fly between Los Angeles and New York, you must add three hours to your clock upon arriving at your destination.Īnd while someone is waking and getting ready for another working day under sunny skies, another is heading off to bed under the moonlight. As a result, time is always different in various places on the planet. Welcome to the complex world of time zones. What time is it? Here's how a common daily question can have multiple answers.

This is because, rather than bringing warmth and colour to your complexion, they're meant to take it away. For starters, a good contour product should be cool instead of warm-toned. Technically, bronzers can be applied all over, but they're mostly saved for areas where the sun would naturally hit.ĭespite contour products similarity in terms of shade, use, etc, they really couldn't be more different. Bronzers are warm-toned and we use them when we want to fake that just-back-from-my-hols glow. If you're unfamiliar with the difference between contour and bronzer, allow us to explain. Sure, we smothered our face in bronzer, but carefully sculpt and shade we certainly did not. Cosmetics, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Fenty Beauty, and Wet n Wild.Contour kits are now such a staple in our makeup arsenal, it's hard to believe that only a few years ago barely any of us paid attention to our cheekbones. Some palettes have both highlighting shades (which might be matte or shimmery) and color-correctors (usually with more of a yellow or pinkish tint).Ĭommerce writer and Byrdie contributor Theresa Holland has several years of experience covering skincare and makeup products. "The lighter colors in the kit can be used to either brighten and highlight or just to set your makeup in place if it's a powder formula," says Ali. That's why most contour kits come with both deep and light colors. In other words, the opposite hues complete each other, making up the two essential components of a pro-level makeup routine. That said, palettes with several hues allow you to blend colors to create your perfect shade.Ĭontour is the yin to highlighter's yang. For beginners and anyone who doesn't want or need the works, she suggests kits with two to four colors-we recommend the Beauty Bakerie Lemon Bar Face Palette or the Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit. "Typically, contour palettes have around six to eight colors, but unless you're a makeup artist, you don't actually need that many colors to contour and sculpt your face," explains Ali. Similar to setting your foundation with a powder, some people use a cream formula and then set it with a contour powder. However, many powder formulas (such as the Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Contour Kit) are notably silky and smooth, as they're designed to be both blendable and buildable. If you're a beginner, I would suggest you go for powder formula, as it's easier to use," says Ali.Ĭreams (like the Danessa Myricks Beauty Waterproof Cream Palette) tend to be a little more blendable, and they work well for those with dry skin. "When looking to buy a contour kit, you have to first decide if you want a powder or a cream formula. For example, I like my contour to be pigmented and blendable," says Vancouver-based makeup artist Amanda Benko. I also think the formulation is very important. "When I look for a contour palette, I make sure it is suitable to use on a wide range of skin tones, first and foremost. Many also come with a highlighter color, which is key to creating a pro-level dimension. We appreciate options with multiple shades, allowing you to blend colors for a customized effect. Luckily, contour kits come with everything you need (except maybe a brush and a blender sponge) to achieve the lifted, sculpted look you're going for. The possibilities are endless-that is, if you're equipped with the right products. You can make your nose look straighter, define your jawline, or create the illusion of a longer neck. You can sculpt your cheekbones and make your face appear narrower or shade your upper-forehead to draw attention down to your eyes. In any case, the makeup technique is truly a game-changer. Believe it or not, people have been contouring their faces since the sixteenth century, but we can all agree it wasn't mainstream until the Kardashian era (which is to say, sometime around 2012). It's also usable almost anywhere-carpets, upholstery, wood floors, concrete, plastic surfaces, laundry, and even on artificial grass (useful if you use an indoor dog potty).īubba's Rowdy Friends is certified by the Carpet and Rug Institute, which means it's passed tests for cleaning efficacy and colorfastness. We found Bubba's Rowdy Friends to be wholly effective. Enzymatic cleaners are typically safer and more environmentally-friendly than cleaners that rely on more caustic primary ingredients. These enzymes, produced by beneficial bacteria, are especially good for cat and other pet stains because they target organic compounds common to urine, vomit, and feces. The stain and the smell were completely eliminated leaving behind a subtle scent of eucalyptus and mint.īubba's Rowdy Friends Pet Stain & Odor Terminator is an enzymatic cleaner, which means it uses proteins that accelerate chemical reactions, in this case by breaking down the components of a stain, such as the ammonia crystals in cat urine. Per the instructions, we allowed the undiluted cleaner to saturate the stain for one hour, then rinsed it with water, and hung it up to air dry. We used this cleaner to tackle a set-in stain from cat pee on a faux fur rug and weeks later the stench has not returned. Our favorite after testing is Bubba's Rowdy Friends Pet Stain & Odor Terminator, which provides effective stain and smell removal-on both new and set-in stains-on household surfaces, leaving behind the faint scent of mint and eucalyptus. They gave us feedback in multiple categories, taking notes about how well each cleaner managed odors, cleaned up urine, and erased set-in stains. Based on our findings, we sent 17 of our favorite stain removers to volunteer testers to try at home with their cats. We tested dozens of odor and stain-removing products in our Des Moines Lab. The right cleaner can keep an incident from becoming a habit. Regardless of the cause, it's essential to clean cat stains and remove odors from carpet, rugs, and other surfaces, so that your cat doesn't begin to treat the spot as a bathroom. Tips on aerobic system careĪerobic systems are more complex than their standard cousins, and require more and different care. Just make sure you’re getting tablets that are made from calcium hypochlorite and are EPA-certified to treat wastewater. You can buy buckets of tablets at the Van Delden office, or at any Home Depot or Lowe’s. Where can I get the right chlorine tabs for my aerobic system? Be careful not to mix the two types of tablets - this can cause explosions. If you’ve used swimming pool chlorine tabs in your septic tank, remove the tabs from your chlorinator and clean it out well ( see our video on cleaning your tablet chlorinator). They are not approved by EPA for wastewater effluent disinfection.” What if I’ve used the wrong chlorine in my septic tank? Additionally, there is a danger of explosion using swimming pool tablets since the tablets will release an explosive gas called nitrogen chloride due to the fact that they are not totally immersed in water at all times while in use. Swimming pool tablets dissolve more slowly than calcium hypochlorite and do not thoroughly disinfect the effluent. The chlorine in these tablets are made from trichlorisocyanuric acid. WARNING: DO NOT use swimming pool chlorine tablets in your disinfection system. Follow all warning and precaution statements of the chlorine tablet manufacturer to protect yourself and the system equipment. They are very reactive and will kill 99% of the bacteria present in the effluent within 10 minutes. “When disinfection of secondarily treated wastewater effluent is required and you are using chlorine tablets, it is important that you use a chlorine tablet that is made from calcium hypochlorite and is certified for wastewater disinfection by EPA. Here’s what the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) says about it at : Pool chlorine is ineffective and dangerous Chlorine tablets for swimming pools are not designed to treat wastewater - only calcium hypochlorite tablets have been approved by the EPA for use in aerobic systems. Aerobic septic systems use chlorine in the wastewater cleaning process, and a common question we get from aerobic system owners is whether or not they can use swimming pool chlorine tablets. Under the rules of golf, a golf ball has a mass no more than 1.620 oz (45.93 g), and has a diameter not less than 1.680 in (42.67 mm) ( 5).Īccording to Newton’s third law, the impulse (the force multiplied by the time for which the force is applied joules) will cause the golf ball to speed up or slow down. Then the energy is transferred to the object that it eventually impacts ( 3, 4). During the ball's flight, mechanical kinetic energy transfer continues, and makes the ball rise. Simultaneously the shaft on the club bends, which creates elastic kinetic energy. Due to the size of the ball and its potential speed, it can cause considerable damage to the region that it hits ( 2).Īccording to the Golf Society of Great Britain, the golf ball is compressed against the club during the hit. This mechanism has the potential to cause a great amount of injury. Most facial and head injuries are the result of being struck by a stray golf ball or by the head of a club used by a fellow golfer during the swing. Postoperatively, his mouth opening improved to 3 finger breadths ( Figure 2, upper right).įacial injuries are not common in golfers. When he was playing golf on a golf course, his friend made a shot about 100 m behind him and a golf ball hit his left cheek ( Figure 1). He had been hit by a golf ball on the left cheek. This case is important as no such injury -in which an adult golfer was hit by a golf ball, resulting in a zygomatic arch fracture- has previously been described.Ī 38-year-old man was referred to the plastic surgery department from a local clinic. The case of a zygomatic arch fracture caused by a golf ball is presented. However, facial bone fractures are very uncommon, especially zygomatic fractures. IntroductionĪs golf has become more common, golf-related injuries, such as back pain and knee problems, have also become more widespread. When meet the patients hit by a golf ball, surgeons should aware of the possibility of the facial bone fractures including nasal bone or zygoma. Other players or spectators should turn their back to the source of the call, duck, and cover their face and head with their hands. In the field, serious face or head injuries on the golf course may be prevented by informing other golfers and shouting the word “fore (look ahead a term warning the flight of a golf ball)” when it appears possible that a golf ball may hit other players or spectators. Microsoft classifies this error as so serious that a compatibility lock has been set for the devices affected by this problem. In my opinion, I guess this scenario is restricted mainly to corporate environments, where Internet Explorer 11 remains the default browser for compatibility reasons – for private users, Microsoft Chromium Edge should have been the default browser for a long time (without intervention), so that the problems do not occur. The issue only concerns the upgrade scenario from Windows 10 clients to Windows 11 (21H2), if the above conditions apply. If you have accepted to import your IE11 information and data into Microsoft Edge in Windows 10 before upgrading to Windows 11, your device should not be affected by this issue. However, anyone who refuses to do this will have the problem after the upgrade that the IE 11 data can no longer be accessed. It is then suggested to import the saved information and data from Internet Explorer 11 into Microsoft Chromium Edge before the upgrade. This occurs when Internet Explorer 11 is still used as the default browser, or is the primary browser used, and then the upgrade is to be made from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Microsoft has published the information on Main the Windows 11 Health Status dashboard and writes about the error:Īfter upgrading to Windows 11, saved information and data from Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) might not be accessible if you did not accept to import it into Microsoft Edge before the upgrade. If not, you’re going to have to pay Apple for a more expensive storage tier. Make certain that you have enough iCloud space to accommodate all of your Desktop and Documents files.I think it’s very important to back up your files and folders before you make any big changes like this, especially since Sierra’s so new.If you don’t have the Finder’s status bar enabled, you can also get a rough estimate of the syncing progress via the progress circle in the sidebar. Back to Desktop & Documents SyncingĪnyway, once you’ve checked the Desktop and Documents Folders box in System Preferences, click Done and, as long as your Mac has an active Internet connection, the syncing of your files should start! If you open a new Finder window, you’ll see that your Desktop and Documents user folders will be nested in the iCloud section of the sidebar, and the status of your syncing will be displayed in the Finder status bar if it’s enabled (go to View > Show Status Bar from Finder’s menu bar to see it). If you need local access to more files than you can fit on your Mac’s built-in drive, consider picking up a portable external drive, which are now quite cheap. Despite Apple’s major investments in data centers and online infrastructure, I’m still a big believer in always keeping on-site copies of your files so that they can be properly backed up. However, I still recommend that most users keep this option off unless you’re truly in dire need of having access to large amounts of data as described above. So if you have an entry-level MacBook with a 256GB SSD, for example, you could still have on-demand access to hundreds of gigabytes of media that wouldn’t normally fit on the drive itself by syncing that data to iCloud and downloading what you need when you need it. Optimized Storage is a clever solution that aims to address the conflict between the typically smaller SSDs on modern Macs and the increasing size of our digital files as HD movies and higher resolution photos take up ever more space. The way it works is that you’ll still see references to your data (Photos, iTunes media, etc.) on your Mac, but those files will actually be stored remotely and will be downloaded on demand when you need them. As opposed to merely syncing your files to iCloud, this feature actually moves some of your data off your Mac and stores it with iCloud. You may have also noticed another new feature in macOS Sierra called Optimize Mac Storage. This will enable the secure syncing of your desktop and document files and folders to iCloud, allowing you to access them from your authorized devices when needed. The iCloud Drive options window will appear. Make sure you’re on the Documents tab and then check the box labeled Desktop & Documents Folders. When System Preferences opens, select iCloud. From the iCloud Preferences window, make sure the box for iCloud Drive is checked and then click Options. You can do this under the Apple logo at the upper-left of your screen. The first thing to do is to open System Preferences on your Mac. If you dismissed that message during the installation, though, how do you set it up? Let’s talk about how to turn on Desktop and Documents syncing in Sierra! Enable Desktop & Documents Syncing This is a new feature that will take all of the items from your Documents folder and your Desktop and store copies of them (securely) with Apple, so if you need to see a file on your iPhone, for example, you’ll be able to. When you installed macOS Sierra, you may have noticed that it asked you whether you’d like to sync some of your Mac’s folders up to iCloud. How to Turn on Desktop and Documents Syncing in macOS Sierra I rarely wear mattes but based on the finish of this one I may check out one or two more colors. Looks and feels expensive and has impressive lasting power. It has full smooth coverage with one swipe. Valeria Rose (matte, also available at Sephora) is one of the first mattes I’ve tried from Gucci and I’m 10/10 impressed. Off the top of my head this Sheer Lipstick formula pulls a little sheerer while the Glow & Care formula seems a bit bolder. I have this in the the Glow & Care Shine formula but couldn’t find it in my stash to compare. They Met in Argentina (sheer) is a stunning warm coral pink. I also own this in the Glow & Care Shine formula and love it. 100% recommend.Ĭandace Rose (sheer) is a beautiful sheer pink rose.Ĭall It A Day (sheer, also available at Sephora) is a pretty mauve pink. For once I’ve found a baby pink rose shade that isn’t too white in the base or too pale. I didn’t order every shade to try but here are the shades listed as “summer shades” online.Ģ21 Candace Rose, 505 Janet Rust, 214 Call It A Day, 208 They Met in Argentinaġ15 Bertha Blossom, 219 Mary Mauve, 220 Suzanne Sunset, 208 They Met in ArgentinaĢ17 Valeria Rose, 519 Pauline Red, 312 Frances Fire, 308 Lucy Dark Orangeīertha Blossom (Satin) is one of the most perfect baby pink cream lipsticks I’ve tried. There are a handful you can find at Sephora, Nordstrom, etc. Some of them appear to be only available at the Gucci website. This summer Gucci added new shades of lipsticks in the Sheer, Satin and Matte formulas. But if you’re in between shades, don’t like thicker formulas or want something without the floral scent, but still want something matte I’d recommend the Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Foundation or the Laura Mercier Real Flawless Weightless Perfecting Foundation. On days where I am a little darker/tan I’ve been mixing in the Supergoop! Glowscreen in Sunset to get my perfect match.įor me it works. I wear Shade 305N and while it’s a good match now, there seems to be a big gap between 305N and the next shade 310. The heavily scented formula is a turn off for many of you (based on your messages). Two downsides for me are the shade selection for medium skin tones and scent. It blends nicely with a sponge and lasts all day. It has a matte finish but doesn’t look dry. The Eternite de Beaute Matte Foundation has been really good for me. Applying with a brush tends to pull away my base but dabbing and blending with fingers gives the prettiest glow with the perfect amount of shimmer/pigment and a nice dry down. It’s a multi-use highlighter but so far I’ve only used it on the cheek bones. I have dozens of liquid highlighters at this point and don’t need another one but I’ve been really happy with this one. As soon as it popped up online at Gucci I ordered it immediately. The Liquid Highlighter seems to be only available online at Gucci, Selfridges and Harrods at the moment. The powdery finish isn’t too powdery – if you’ve played with these you know it blends into the skin with absolute perfection. They blend nicely and also layer easily without looking overdone or heavy. Pigment is very easy to control with these blushes. I decided to try this one anyways and I think I can make it work layered with other shades. They tend to pull very bright, very intense and very bold. This gives the skin a healthy flushed glow. Soft Red 08 is not really red at all, but more of a bright coral. On it’s own this is a little too pale for my skin tone but it layers beautifully on top of other blushes or bronzers for that brightening pink effect. All three new ones and the ones I already own swatched below: I swatched and reviewed the first round of shades here. I think they’re really fun for summer! I ordered mine from Sephora. There are three new shades this season: True Pink, Soft Red and Intense Plum. I still think they are a little overpriced but they perform exceptionally well and the powder formula melts into the skin beautifully for a nice soft luminous yet matte glow. The Gucci Beauty Luminous Matte Blushes have been a favorite since they launched last year. Lots to cover in this roundup! If you’ve been interested in any of these I hope you find this roundup helpful! Blush de Beaute Luminous Matte Beauty Blush Last I have a look at the Illuminateur de Beaute ($43) which is a liquid highlighter that I’ve been testing for a few weeks. This year they also launched a new matte foundation called Eternite de Beaute ($69) which seems to have replaced their satin finish formula. Make your Instagram account stand out and look professionally branded. Leave time to go through security and walk to the other end of the museum to where the entrance is at. When we purchased our tickets on line, you had to choose the time to enter. After you purchase your ticket, if you haven’t done so online, you walk through the spacious underground museum. Five of your best friends because it is small. It is only 4 foot tall and seats five people. On the left is a sample pod that you ride up to the top of the arch. You go through security and enter the ticket area. The entrance is ground level and you walk down the steps and you are below ground. Follow the signs painted on the sidewalk. The entrance is between the legs and towards the city. The entrance is not at the legs of the arch. Louis, MO 63102 We walked a block to the arch. The parking garage is Stadium East Parking garage located at, 200 S Broadway, St. You validate your parking ticket in the arch entrance area at a machine which is on the left by the restrooms. It is designated parking for the arch so you need to bring your ticket to validate cheaper parking. We went during the week and parked in the parking deck by the arch. It was easy to get off I 70 and stop, we spent two hours here. We were driving from Ohio to Colorado and decided to stop at the arch. Overall a great experience and the family enjoyed it! Lots of merch to choose from and reasonably priced. Make sure to hit up the gift shop on the way out. When you reach the top you have a limited amount of time to take photos and look around before you have to load into your pod and take the 3 minute ride down. The ride up takes 4 minutes and our family of 4 was able to fit in one pod together. We checked in 5 minutes prior to arch ride and our tour guide shared information about the arch with us and also showed a short few minute video that was very interesting showcasing the period which the arch was built. We could have spent well over an hour walking around and reading all the history. The museum is very interactive and does not cost anything to walk around and view. We failed to bring the parking stub so needed up paying for parking. NOTE: if you park in any of the arch parking garages make sure to bring your parking ticket stub to get validated at the visitor desk. We pre-booked our Arch ride online in advance (which I recommend) and arrived about an hour early in order to park and walk around the museum. When entering the building masks are required but were provided if you did not have. I brought my husband and 2 boys, ages 10 & 13, and the trip did not disappoint. The last time I visited the Arch was as a tween in the early 1990s. |
